Junior Development (JD) Age 9-14

The Junior Development program is lead by Maureen and Ted de St. Croix, both former international calibre athletes.  Maureen continues her athletic career as a Master athlete and holds several World Records for 50 year olds.  Ted and Maureen have been involved with the club since its inception in 2006.

The training group ranges in size from 15 to 40 kids at any one time, we always adjust accordingly to ensure everyone is active and learning.  We have a great team of volunteer parent coaches to help us out.  Florence, Rod, Hugh, Gord, Dave, Jay, Oz, Brad, Scott, Sue, Jim, Charles, Mary, Lynn and Jack all pitch in to help our JD's grow.

The program each year begins in January with indoor training concentrating on balance, flexibility, coordination, strength, reflexes and fun.  We train indoors at Semiahmoo Secondary during the week and go outdoors on Saturdays with endurance and strength oriented training.

We participate in 1-2 indoor meets in Richmond and Kamloops for fun and motiviation during Jan, Feb.

The spring season begins when we head outdoors towards the end of February, early March.  We gradually increase the running with an emphasis on running drills we affectionately call "Power Speed".  A well balanced warm up period is followed by speed training and then some technical training after that.  The endurance comes naturally so we do not do any pure distance running as we believe that speed and strength are the foundations of a strong athlete.  As an athlete gets older, they can specialize towards longer distances if they wish.  The competition season runs from end of April to the end of July.  All club members are encouraged to compete in a meet as it is a time to make friends and test your skills.

Our JD program is now well established in BC with provincial medallists in throwing, jumping, sprinting and middle distance running.  Since the inception of the club in 2006, we have not lost the provincial JD aggregate award for Cross Country running with several age group gold medals and multiple top ten finishes by our athletes each year.

We take a 3 week break in August to recharge the batteries before Cross Country season begins in late August.  The club trains right through to mid December with our last Cross Country race at the end of October.
